Sci Fi TV Development: Samurai Jack Headed to Adult Swim, Kevin Bacon Looks at a Tremors TV Series, Felicia Day Heads to MST3K

News, updates, and (mostly viable) rumors relating to development of science fiction / fantasy television productions. If you have tips or more info on these or other productions, please pass them along in the comments.

Development announcements slowed down some over the last two weeks, but there were still a few that I tracked including two that could make major waves:

Development

samurai-jack-new-adult-swimSamurai Jack

Network: Adult Swim

Production Team: Genndy Tartakovsky (Creator/Writer/Executive Producer)

Status: Early Production

About: “Premiering in 2001, the acclaimed series follows a time-displaced samurai on a quest to defeating the shape-shifting demon Aku, who destroyed his father’s kingdom.” Source: CBR

Tremors

Network: No Network Attached

Production Team: Kevin Bacon (Executive Producer), Universal Cable Productions (Production Company)

Starring: Kevin Bacon

Status: Early Development

About: This would be a continuation/sequel to the original movie and its sequels.

Comments: Kevin Bacon has said that “I’d love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later”. There’s no word on if any of the other characters from the movies would be involved. There was a previous Tremors TV series that aired for one season on the Sci Fi Channel in 2003. There is no word on if this would be linked with that series. Michael Gross has played the role of Burt Gummer across all of the movies and the previous TV series, but there is no word on whether he would be involved. Source: EW

Harrow County

Network: Syfy

Production Team: Becky Kirsch (Writer/Executive Producer), Universal Cable Productions (Production Company)

Status: Early Development

About:Harrow County centers on Emmy who has always known that the deep, dark woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts, goblins, and the restless dead. On the eve of her 18th birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures and to the land itself in a way she never imagined, for she is the reincarnation of a powerful witch who was put to death on the very day Emmy was born. For this reason, the townsfolk mean to kill her too. In order to survive, Emmy must embrace the unusual powers at her command.” Source: Deadline Hollywood

Comments: This is based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name created by Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook and Syfy is likely targeting late 2016 to get the show on the air.

Transylvania

A headstrong young woman in search of her missing father ventures from NYC to Transylvania where she teams up with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective, and together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history.” Source: Deadline Hollywood

Comments: From the same executive producers as the CBS Summer series Zoo, this likely will be in contention for a slot on The CW’s 2016-17 schedule.

Through My Eyes

Network: FOX

Production Team: JH Wyman (Writer/Executive Producer), Lawrence Bender (Executive Producer)

Status: Early Development

About: Based on the Russian TV series, this will be an AHS-like season-long anthology “horror-thriller in which the story unfolds Rashomon-style through the direct point of view of a different character in each episode”. Source: Hollywood Reporter

Comments: JH Wyman previously worked on Fringe. This series will likely be looked at by FOX as a potential entry to their 2016-17 schedule.

Updates

MST3K: The previously announced new season of MST3k episodes is moving forward and word is that comedian and “Nerdist” podcast host Jonah Ray will take the lead role in the series that was previously held by Joel Hodgson and that Felicia day will be onboard as the new villain Kinga Forrester (daughter of previous MST3k villain Dr. Clayton Forrester).  Source: CBR
