Cancellation Watch/The Charts: Some Boring Numbers Amidst all the Cancellations and Renewals

With all the cancellation, renewal, and pickup announcements flying about, the usual numbers that I report got pushed to a secondary concern the last couple of days.  But here is a quick rundown of the ratings for the Tuesday through Thursday sci fi / fantasy shows plus the chart results from the prior week.

Ratings Results:  The numbers in general were down with almost all of the genre shows slipping the past few days.  On Tuesday, ABC’s Agents of SHIELD dipped to a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.4 million total viewers.  Still, that one received its renewal notice this week as expected.  On The CW, The Originals matched its season low of a 0.6 rating with 1.4 million total viewers and Supernatural was down at a 0.8 rating with 1.6 million total viewers.  Both of those shows were renewed a few months back, though.  On CBS, Person of Interest also matched its season low of a 1.7 rating with 10.5 million total viewers.  That one was also renewed a while back.  On Wednesday, Arrow dipped to a 0.8 rating with 2.3 million total viewers while The 100 held steady at a 0.6 score with 1.6 million total viewers. The former series was renewed a couple of months ago while the latter just received word of its renewal yesterday.  On NBC, Revolution sunk to a series low of a 1.1 rating with 3.8 million total viewers.  If the network had been wavering over their decision on that show (I don’t think they were), that might have been the last straw as that one received its cancellation notice today (and NBC better prep for the backlash from fans).  On Thursday, The CW’s Vampire Diaries remained at a series low of a 0.7 rating with 1.6 million total viewers.  That one has already been renewed, though.

The Charts: Nothing new to report in the charts as Game of Thrones once again topped the cable Top 25 for the week of April 28th to May 4th and also beat all but one show (The Big Bang Theory) on the broadcast networks based on its rating in the 18-49 demo.  And the usual suspects (Agents of SHIELD, Once Upon A Time, Resurrection, and Person of Interest) showed up in the Top 25 for the broadcast nets based on ratings and total viewers for the week.  Not surprisingly, all of those have been renewed.  You can see the full chart activity for the week below beneath the ratings grid.

We currently have a pretty clear picture for the sci fi/fantasy shows on most of the networks, though still no word on NBC’s Dracula or CBS’ Intelligence.  I will have a full rundown on the NBC renewal, cancellation, and pickup announcements posted shortly and keep an eye on this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for additional breaking news through next week’s upfronts.
