Cancellation Watch: Almost Human Slips a Bit, But Not Bad; No Improvements for Helix or Intelligence

Unless otherwise noted, the ratings numbers below are based on the final overnights and may vary slightly from the preliminaries reported on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.

Ratings Results for the Friday through Monday sci fi / fantasy shows:

almost-human-fox-cancelledOn the Hot Seat: FOX’s Almost Human was preempted for two weeks at the end of January for the Sleepy Hollow season final and then for a repeat (!) of The Following, so a ratings drop was to be expected on its return, though it wasn’t too bad.  The most recent episode pulled a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.4 million total viewers which was a ratings drop of just one tick from the 2.0 the show had the last time it aired.  Still, it needs to be moving forward, not backward, and it’s getting no help from FOX’s momentum killing scheduling.  If it can creep back up to the 2.0 level or even higher in the coming weeks, this one might still have a chance.  Syfy’s Helix pulled another 0.4 score with 1.1 million total viewers on Friday which still has it tracking pretty low in its first season.  It would definitely help this show’s cause if it could get up to at least a 0.5 rating for the rest of its first season.  On Monday, CBS spy fi entry Intelligence matched last week’s 1.5 rating and improved its total viewers to 7.6 million.  At least it is not moving backward, but it really needs to get that rating number closer to the 2.0 level.  ABC’s The Neighbors improved its rating a 1.1 score on Friday with 4.3 million total viewers and even earned a press release from the network’s spin department touting the accomplishment.  If it could hold at that level the rest of the season, it might just have a very slight chance of survival.  But I wouldn’t bet too much on it at this point.   Beauty and the Beast improved a tick to a 0.4 rating with 930k total viewers, but that can hardly be considered an upswing for this almost assuredly doomed show.

Other Ratings News: MTV’s Teen Wolf improved to a season high on Monday of a 1.0 rating with 2.3 million total viewers.  Those are actually the best numbers that show has had since its Season 3 premiere last June and this one is starting to become a force for its network as it delivers strong ratings for a basic cable show and continues to pick up good buzz.  Over on Syfy, Being Human improved to a 0.5 rating with 1.2 million total viewers.  That’s the show’s besting rating since its premiere this season and a good sign if it can continue.  Neither Lost Girl nor Bitten made it into the Cable Top 100 for the night, but as Canadian imports that does not impact them negatively too much.  And for those looking for it, NBC’s Grimm has gone back on a bit of a break and will not return with new episodes until February 28th.
