Why Did It End? This show’s fifth season was announced in advance as its last. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman had indicated that he had a seven-year run planned for the series but apparently Paramount+ decided not to go forward with that (in part due to cost-cutting measures). The show split Star Trek fans as it took a more action-oriented, sfx-heavy approach, though it has developed quite a following over its five-year run. It did get the chance to wrap up its storylines, and the characters may appear in other entries in the franchise or perhaps even a spin-off show at some point in the future.
