Description: 1938 Los Angeles is a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. Why Was It Cancelled? The cancellation announcement came as no surprise seeing as the ratings for the show were very low in its first season. It only averaged a 0.03 score (three one-hundredths of a ratings point) based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic. And while the premium cable channels are not as focused on the same-day ratings, those do act as a leading indicator of audience interest. The numbers for City of Angels started off low when it premiered in April 2020, and never improved through its ten-episode run (often falling out of the Cable Top 150 shows for the night). I moved it to Bubble status early in its run, and considered it a long shot to get a second season renewal. Whether fans will make a Call to Action to lobby for another season remains to be seen.
