Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.
Status Updates
Star Trek: Strange New Wolrds (Paramount+, Status: Renewed): This Trek series did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its Season 4 premiere, but that does not come as a big surprise, seeing as it has not typically performed well in that chart. It did appear there for the week of its third-year premiere in July 2025, placing at Number 7 with an estimated 397 million minutes watched, but it dropped out after that. Reactions to the fourth season of the show have been very mixed, particularly the puppet episode. But this one has already been renewed for a fifth and final year, and filming on that has been completed.
The Ark (Peacock, Status: Renewal Possible): I have seen no viewership numbers for this show’s third season, and NBCUniversal is focused more on the delayed viewing stats, as well as how many views it gets for its encore run on Peacock (which Nielsen tracks). This is the last scripted series on Syfy at the moment, with nothing currently in development in the queue. It is possible that the network will move completely away from originals as it is difficult for the cable channels to compete with streaming. I am not moving this one to Bubble status just yet, but it could probably use some help from fans, making some noise on the social networks and bringing it more attention.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe (HBO Man, Status: Renewed): This sci fi comedy spin-off from The Big Bang Theory did not make it into the Nielsen charts for the week of its premiere, but the early numbers released by HBO Max suggest strong viewership for the series. And it received a second season renewal two weeks ago.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter (TNT, Status: Renewal Possible): This continuation of The Librarians franchise was picked up for two seasons in advance, and it is now over halfway through its second year (following a Sunday and Monday rollout schedule for episodes). The ratings are decent for a basic cable series, and this one is not too expensive to produce. But there has been no word on a third season, and TNT acquired this from The CW after that broadcast network went through an ownership change. TNT had mostly exited the scripted originals game before that, and there was no indication of whether the cabler had an interest in keeping the show going beyond its original order. I am not putting this as a Bubble entry yet, but now might be a good time for fans to make some noise and let the network know that they want more from this one.
