Sci Fi TV News of Note:
The previously announced Booster Gold TV series that was in the works at HBO will not be going forward according to writer David Jenkins (Our Flag Means Death). That DCU entry would have followed a man from the 25th century who comes to present-day Metropolis and uses his future knowledge and technology to turn himself into a hero. A reason has not been given for cancelling the current project, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will remain in development and HBO will likely look to bring in a new creative team to work on it.
Disney+ reversed course on its MCU series Wonder Man, announcing that it will not continue to a second season despite receiving a renewal earlier this year. The story arcs for those characters could carry on with other MCU shows and movies, and you can read more about the cancellation at this link.
The Walking Dead franchise has proven profitable for Netflix in encore runs, and it looks like it will continue to lumber along on that service for several more years. The streamer just signed a $500 million with AMC Global Media to lock up the rights for five more years and that will include the main series along with all of its spin-offs. This is a co-exclusive deal with AMC+, so the show will be available on that service as well.
In production news, work has begun on the fourth season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, to be titled Queen of the Damned, and The Orville Season 4 is showing up in the Production Weekly listings for a second week in a row. You can read about those and more in the latest Sci Fi TV Production Report post.
