Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.

Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings for November 13th:

DC Crime (HBO Max)

HBO Max just announced its upcoming live-action series DC Crime–which features Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen–and that is showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings. The Hollywood Reporter gives the following description:

The show would be presented as a true crime docuseries that would be hosted by Jimmy Olsen. The first season would focus on Gorilla Grodd, a DC villain best known for his battles with The Flash.

Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault–who previously worked on the mockumentary American Vandal–will be onboard as writers and showrunners. James Gunn and Peter Safran will be executive producing and this will be part of the current DC Universe reboot. This is one of the few originals announced for HBO Max instead of HBO, and it will likely be targeting a late 2026 premiere or early 2027.

Alien: Earth (FX/Hulu) Season 2

The official Season 2 renewal for this show finally came this week, and it is now showing up in the Production Weekly listings. Noah Hawley had previously said about the show:

Season 1 is the proof of concept. And if it works commercially, then Season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a Season 3, 4, 5.

And he added:

Alien: Earth [is] designed to be a recurring series. I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it.

Production will be moving from Thailand to London, possibly as a cost-cutting measure, and this one will likely be looking at a late 2026 premiere.

Other Production News:

Production has wrapped on the third and final season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The second season of that show has not premiered yet, but will likely arrive in early 2026, and this should mean that the break between the second and third season should not be too long… Production on Dune: Prophecy Season 2 is moving forward with Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Tom Hollander (Harley Quinn), and Ashley Walters joining the cast.

Other genre entries from the listings for November 13th: The Last of Us (HBO) Season 3
