The story of Alien: Earth will continue as FX has finally announced an official second season renewal for the prequel series. In addition, FX has re-upped its deal with creator Noah Hawley to keep him as a creative force at the cable channel for several more years. The renewal announcement comes a month and a half after the show wrapped up its first season, and the delay may have been related to working out the contract extension for Hawley. Production will also be moving from Thailand to London which should brings costs down some.
Alien: Earth drew decent viewership to the network, averaging a 0.09 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-45 demographic with 430K total viewers. It made it into the Nielsen Streaming Charts four weeks for its run on Hulu, averaging an estimated 373 million minutes watched per week during that time. Its numbers might have been better, but right about the time it was streaming, many people cancelled Hulu and Disney+ in protest because Jimmy Kimmel Live was pulled off the air in a controversial move. Still, the show performed well enough that it will get to continue to a second season and more.
Noah Hawley previously indicated that he has more seasons planned:
Season 1 is the proof of concept. And if it works commercially, then Season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a Season 3, 4, 5.
And he added:
Alien: Earth [is] designed to be a recurring series. I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it.

A research vessel carrying five alien species crash-lands in a city controlled by the powerful Prodigy, one of the five major corporations on the planet. A group of machine/human hybrids is sent in to investigate, while the CEO of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation (which owns the ship) tries to reclaim its cargo. It stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, and Timothy Olyphant.
