Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings for July 31st and August 7th:
It: Welcome to Derry (HBO)
The first season of this It prequel series has received a premiere window of October 2025, and work is now beginning on the second year. The first season of that show takes place in 1962, and the second will go back to 1935 and the third to 1908 as they explore the history of Derry and the 27-year cycle of Pennywise’s return. Getting a jump on Season 2 should reduce the hiatus between seasons and could have it on track for a 2026 premiere.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale (Hulu)
We have known for a while that a Buffy reboot is in the works, and now it apparently has an official title. I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else yet, but Production Weekly is now referring to it with the title above. Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers and she will be training a new slayer in the series. Not much more is known about the show at this point, though there are plans to bring back some of the original characters as guest stars or on a recurring basis. Expect this one to arrive at some point in 2026.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO)
Word broke this week that this Game of Thrones prequel could be continuing to a second and third season, and the former showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings appears to back that up. HBO has not officially announced a renewal, but that could be coming soon. The plan has been to do at least three seasons of this show to follow along with the three novellas. The first season of the show has mostly completed filming, but it is not scheduled to premiere unto 2026.
Wednesday (Netflix)
The Season 3 renewal was announced for this show two weeks ago and work has now begun on that. It had nearly a three-year hiatus between its first and second years, but this should cut down on that. Expect the third season to arrive at some point in late 2026 or early 2027.
Other genre entries from the listings for July 31st and August 7th: Assassin’s Creed (Amazon), Silo (Apple TV+) Season 4.
