As expected, AMC’s The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has been renewed for a fourth season ahead of its third season premiere, but the show will be ending at that point. This one appeared in the Production Weekly listings a few weeks ago, and the official announcement of the renewal came at Comic Con. It has been the highest-rated of the TWD spin-offs, but has not seen the ratings levels of the parent show. The announcement of the end of Daryl Dixon‘s run does not appear to signal the end of the franchise on AMC as well as they are claiming that “it’s the last season of this iteration of the show”. Here is the full statement from showrunner David Zabel:
After much conversation, three weeks ago, we started rolling on Season 4. It will be a super-sized season. We will make eight episodes, which is very cool … and it will really allow us to to complete the story of Daryl and Carol in Spain, and it will be very emotional and powerful. It will also complete this part of the characters’ journey, the European adventure, and so, it’s the last season of this iteration of the show. And then, what lies beyond that for these characters, we will see. I’m sure there’s plenty, and we’re always talking about it, but it’ll be the fourth and final season.
The Walking Dead: Dead City received its third season renewal last week, and it seems like that one could wrap up at that point or head to a fourth and final season as well. The third season of Daryl Dixon premieres September 7th, and Deadline has the following synopsis for that:
Season 3 tracks Carol and Daryl as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon had already counted as renewed for the 2023-24 season, so this announcement does not impact the Cancellation/Renewal Score. We currently stand at 30 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (48% of shows tracked) vs. 18 cancelled and ending (29%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon follows Daryl who sets out to find Rick Grimes but somehow gets carried across the ocean to France. He journeys across that country encountering the survivors there while also trying to find a way back home. It stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Clémence Poésy, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, and Eriq Ebouaney.
The 2024-25 season is almost done, but I expect more announcements to come out of Comic Con this weekend. Be sure to stay tuned to CancelledSciFi.com and our social media sites for updates and breaking news.
