The 2025 Upfronts begin this week with the big ones from the broadcast networks and major streaming services coming next week. That is when the broadcasters and the streamers present their schedules for the coming season to their sponsors, and this used to be a pretty big deal back when the old school nets (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW) focused more heavily on scripted programming. But as far as sci fi and fantasy fans are concerned, there is not much of interest coming from those networks since they offer very little in the way of genre entries these days. It is possible that one or two shows might get announced for the coming season, but I don’t expect much from them. And we already know the status of the three shows airing on those networks: Ghosts (CBS) has been renewed through its sixth season, Krapopolis (FOX) has been renewed through its fourth season, and Superman & Lois (CW) was cancelled after four seasons.
As far as the streaming services, we should hear some cancellation and renewal announcements in the coming days from AMC, Peacock, Max, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Hulu. Following is the schedule of presentations for next week, and generally the cancellation/renewal announcements precede those:
Monday May 12, 10:30 AM – NBCUniversal
Monday May 12, 4:00 PM – FOX
Monday May 12, 6:30 PM – Amazon
Tuesday May 13, 4:00 PM – Disney
Wednesday May 14, 10:00 AM – Warner Bros. Discovery
Wednesday May 14, 2:00 PM – Netflix
CBS and The CW are not doing presentations this year, but instead having direct meetings with the sponsors. Both should release their schedules in the next week, though.
As is typical for this time of year, I put out the Save My Show poll for the current season. Below is the list of all the sci fi and fantasy shows that have been cancelled or are ending this season along with those that have not heard word on their fates yet. I am also including four shows from the prior season that are still waiting for a cancellation or renewal announcement: Ark: The Animated Series (Paramount+), Creepshow (Shudder), Hit Monkey (Hulu), and Them (Prime Video). The Orville is also included here because it has not been officially cancelled yet and there are indications that a fourth season is in the works. Cast your vote once for up to five shows that you believe should continue to another season. And note that I did fix the error that was in last Summer’s poll that allowed people to vote multiple times.
The poll results will be shared with the networks and streaming services, and we have seen cases in the past where shows have been saved by fan support (Lucifer, The Expanse, Manifest). In addition, fans should make a Call to Action on the social networks to help support the shows that they believe should stick around for additional seasons. You can see the status of all the current sci fi and fantasy television shows at our Cancellation Watch Page, and be sure to stay tuned to this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for breaking news and updates.
Note that shows like Shadow and Bone, Lockwood & Co., Warrior Nun, Fate: The Winx Saga, and Legends of Tomorrow are not included here because they are cancelled shows from past seasons. Those and more will be appearing in the next “Cancelled All-Stars” poll that will go up in July.
