Hit-Monkey Renewed for Season 2 by Hulu

The animated series Hit-Monkey has been renewed by Hulu for a second season. Don’t remember that show which is based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name? No surprise because the first season premiered all the way back in November 2021 and there has been no official word on the series since then. Hit-Monkey was one of the last projects from Marvel TV before that group was absorbed into Marvel Studios, and it was one of three shows to get sent to Hulu for what seemed like one-and-done runs on the streaming service. M.O.D.O.K. and Helstrom were the other two and both were cancelled after one season. Hit-Monkey did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings when its first season was released, and after Hulu remained silent on the fate of the show for a year, I assumed it fell victim to the recent trend of quietly cancelling shows. The fact that it is getting a second season may have something to do with the fact that it moved over to 20th Century Animation (M.O.D.O.K. and Helstrom found themselves without a home after Marvel TV shuttered its doors). Why it took so long to make the announcement is unclear, especially seeing as its new home is still under the Disney umbrella.  Saturday Night Live‘s Leslie Jones will be joining the show in its second season in an unspecified role. The second season will likely arrive later this year.

This renewal does nothing to help the Cancellation/Renewal Score from the current season because it goes back to the 2021-22 season. However, it will improve the score from last year to 52 renewals (48% of the shows tracked) vs. 46 cancelled/ending shows (42%).  You can see the detail on that at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Hit-Monkey follows a wronged Japanese macaque who is mentored by the ghost of an American assassin and who fights against Tokyo’s crime underworld. The voice cast includes Ally Maki, Olivia Munn, Nobi Nakanishi, Fred Tatasciore, George Takei, and Jason Sudeikis and it is based on the character created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić.
