Description: Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions, The Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. Status: This show proved to be a hit in its first year, but saw its same-day viewing numbers drop notably in its second season by 46%. It did make up some slack in delayed-viewing, which the cable channels pay more attention to than the broadcast nets, but apparently that was not enough to justify a third season. USA appears to be moving away from scripted programming, a trend that we are seeing across several of the basic cable networks in the Peak TV crunch era.
