Description:  Hunters is inspired by Whitley Strieber’s best-selling novel, Alien Hunter, in which the disappearance of a decorated FBI agent’s wife leads him to a secret government unit assembled to hunt a group of ruthless terrorists – shadowy figures that may or may not be from this world. The series stars Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek) as Flynn, a headstrong Baltimore FBI agent with a dark past trying to piece together the disappearance of his wife. Britne Oldford (American Horror Story) will play Regan, who is one of the government’s most valuable operatives and may be keeping secrets of her own. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) portrays McCarthy, an unhinged junkie and Hunter cell leader.  Syfy.com

Why Was It Cancelled? This show only averaged a 0.08 rating based on the overnights for the 18-49 demographic and it did not seen much in the way of delayed viewing gains or a following on the social networks (both of which are more important to the cable channels than the broadcast networks). It also did not appear to have much in the way of international financing or partnerships backing it and it was received poorly by critics and genre fans.  After bowing to tepid numbers back in April, it saw those drop even further and then it was kicked to the midnight hour on Mondays. That was a pretty clear signal that the show was in burn-off mode and would not be picked up by Syfy for a second year. That network has typically been giving its new shows two seasons to prove themselves of late, but apparently decided not to go that route with this one, similar to what we saw with Olympus last year.
