Sci Fi TV Status Report Friday Update: The World Series Slows Down The Flash and More

Several of the early week shows suffered notable drops due to the fact that the World Series carried into a seventh game and captured the attention of a large part of the viewing audience.  On Tuesday, The CW’s The Flash stumbled to a series low 0.7 rating based on the overnights for the 18-49 demographic with 2.0 million total viewers, but I expect that one to speed back up next week.  Legends of Tomorrow also dropped, to a 0.4 rating with 1.4 million total viewers, but look for it to bounce back as well.  On ABC, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World slipped to a 0.6 rating with 2.7 million total viewers, but that one as already been trending down and may not get to take the World Series Mulligan.  FX’s The American Horror Story slipped to a 0.72 rating with 1.5 million total viewers, but it still led the night among cable shows and I expect a rebound from that one.

The Wednesday genre entries seemed to be less impacted by the World series as The CW’s Riverdale held steady with a 0.6 rating and 1.5 million total viewers and USA’s Mr. Robot actually improved to a 0.22 rating with 552K total viewers.  Spike’s The Shannara Chronicles was down to a 0.07 rating rating with 156K total viewers, but I’m not certain that one can put much blame on the World Series for its ratings woes.  Over on IFC, Stan Against Evil had its Season 2 premiere with a 0.06 rating and 152K total viewers.  That one may tick up a bit next week without competition from baseball, but those numbers are acceptable for its network,

On Thursday, FOX’s The Orville slipped to a 1.0 rating with 3.8 million total viewers (based on the preliminary numbers) after getting its renewal announcement yesterday.  For some reason, ratings almost always seem to drop for a show right after it gets renewed, but no reason to worry about this one.  NBC’s The Good Place slipped again, this time to a 1.0 rating with 3.1 million total viewers.  But it continues to track close to its lead-in from Superstore and I believe that one is doing okay for now.  The CW shows and FOX’s Gotham tracked about even with where they have been this season.

  1. Halloween undoubtedly also affected Tuesday ratings in addition to the World Series. I bet Flash will be back to normal numbers next week.
