Cancellation Watch: Agent Carter Drops Again as She Finds the Nielsens to be Her Biggest Nemesis

Unless otherwise noted, the ratings numbers below are based on the final overnights and may vary slightly from the preliminaries reported on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.

Ratings results for the sci fi / fantasy shows airing Tuesday Jan 27th thru Thursday Jan 29th (analysis and metric definitions below):

The Flash CW Tue 1/27 8 PM
Rating: 1.3 | Tot Viewers (MM): 4.1 | StD Rating: 1.5 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed

It slipped a bit for the week but is still the top-rated CW show and it already has its second season renewal secured.

Agents of SHIELD ABC Tue 1/27 9 PM
Rating: On Hiatus | Tot Viewers (MM): n/a | StD Rating: 1.7 | Target: 2.0 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate

On hiatus until March 3rd.

Agent Carter ABC Tue 1/27 8 PM
Rating: 1.3 | Tot Viewers (MM): 4.6 | StD Rating: 1.6 | Target: 1.8 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate

Another drop in the ratings for this show which is not a good thing.  ABC’s timeshare experiment has not worked out too well this season.  (More on this one below)

Supernatural CW Tue 1/27 9 PM
Rating: 0.7 | Tot Viewers (MM): 2.1 | StD Rating: 0.9 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed

This show dropped to a season low, but we’ll just call it a blip and I expect it to rebound next week.

Forever (R) ABC Tue 1/27 10 PM
Rating: 0.7 | Tot Viewers (MM): 3.0 | StD Rating: 1.2 | Target: 1.6 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate

In repeats, returns with a new episode next week.

Person of Interest CBS Tue 1/27 10 PM
Rating: Preempted | Tot Viewers (MM): n/a | StD Rating: 1.6 | Target: 1.7 | Cancellation Alert: Low

Preempted, returns with a new episode next week.

Arrow CW Wed 1/28 8 PM
Rating: 1.1 | Tot Viewers (MM): 2.9 | StD Rating: 1.0 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed

This show held steady with the prior week.  The Flash crossover and Ra’s al Ghul storyline has given a nice boost to its numbers.

The 100 CW Wed 1/28 9 PM
Rating: 0.5 | Tot Viewers (MM): 1.5 | StD Rating: 0.5 | Target: 0.7 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed

It slipped back from the 0.6 score it had in the preliminaries yet again.  It just can’t seem to get above that 0.5 level, but it has its third season renewal secured regardless.

American Horror Story FX Wed 1/28 10 PM
Rating: Season Ended | Tot Viewers (MM): n/a | StD Rating: 1.9 | Target: 1.0 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed

Season Ended.  Returns for its fifth season in Fall 2015.

Vampire Diaries CW Thu 1/29 8 PM
Rating: 0.7 | Tot Viewers (MM): 1.5 | StD Rating: 0.8 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed

(Numbers based on the Preliminaries) It slipped back down but is apparently still doing well enough for The CW to keep it around for another year or so.

agent-carter-cancelledOn the Hot Seat: ABC’s Agent Carter slipped again for its third airing to a season low of a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.6 million total viewers.  That has the show now in dangerous territory and I am raising the cancellation alert on it to Moderate.  The series has been received warmly by fans and critics (you can read my review at this link) and had a fair amount of buzz leading up to its debut, but that hasn’t translated into decent ratings numbers yet.  It’s first episode did see notable gains in delayed viewing and it is part of the the multi-billion dollar Avengers franchise, so those factors could help it some.  But seeing as this was pitched as a “limited run” series, ABC may decide to just leave it at that and cancel it without actually having to cancel it like they will almost certainly do with Galavant (more on that at this link).  Agent Carter still has four more episodes to air, and next week the Howling Commandos will be making an appearance, so maybe the show still has some life yet.  But unless it gets its numbers back up, I’m thinking its chances are not looking good at the moment.
