You heard it here first, and it only took a year and a half for the confirmation, but the supernatural drama Revival has been cancelled by Syfy and will not continue to Season 2. According to Matt’s Inside Line, sources at both Syfy and distributor Dynamic Television have verified the the show will not be returning for a second year. I had already made that assumption seeing as more than a year has gone by since the series premiered, and there was no mention of Revival at the NBCUniversal upfronts this past May. The show barely registered in linear viewer during its first season run, but that is not uncommon for Syfy originals. It apparently did better in encore runs on Peacock, but not enough for Syfy to to give it a renewal. The only other original currently on that cable service is The Ark, and there has been no word yet on whether that one will continue to a fourth season.
The cancellation of Revival continues a disturbing recent trend where networks and streaming services quietly decide not to pick up a new season of a show and never make an official announcement on its fate. The only reason this news is coming out is because someone asked Matt’s Inside Line about the status of the show, and he did some digging to determine its fate. Other shows that have been quietly cancelled over the past year or so include Harley Quinn (HBO Max), The Rig (Prime Video), and Hit Monkey (Hulu).
Revival aired on Syfy from June, 2025 to August, 2025 and had an encore run on Peacok, but it has since moved to Netflix where it could potentially find a new audience. It was not an expensive series to produce, so if fans were to stage watch parties and get it in that streamer’s Top 10, perhaps a second season could still happen, giving some resolution to the show’s unfinished storylines. More on that at this link.
This series counts back to the 2024-25 season, and I had already moved it to cancelled status. You can see the status for all of shows from the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Revival is set in a small Wisconsin town where the recently deceased inexplicably return to life, seemingly unchanged and retaining their memories and personalities. As fear and suspicion spread among the living, local police officer Dana Cypress investigates a mysterious murder while trying to uncover the truth behind the phenomenon. It stars Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, Andy McQueen, and Steven Ogg and it is based on the comic book series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton.
We are still early in the 2026-27 season, and there are several shows from the prior year awaiting word on their fates. Be sure to stay tuned to CancelledSciFi.com and our social media sites for the latest updates on all the current sci-fi and fantasy shows.
