Status Updates
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): For a second week in a row, this animated spin-off from the Netflix mega-hit did not make it into the Netflix Top 10 for television shows. It is not uncommon for animated entries to draw less viewership than live-action entries, but the first season did make it into the lower rungs of the charts for two weeks, averaging twelve million hours watched per week during that period. The second season did wrap up its storylines and could act as a conclusion for the spin-off seeing as it only has a short timeframe to work with, taking place between the events of Seasons 2 and 3 of the main show. And it is possible that the animated series could continue by jumping a year or two or going back a year. But with the drop in viewership between Seasons 1 and 2, perhaps Netflix will decide this one has run its course and focus on other Stranger Things spin-offs.
Lanterns (HBO, Status: On the Bubble): This series remained in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a second week, holding at the Number 8 slot with an estimated 525 million minutes watched (based on Nielsen sampling). Considering the cost of the series (around $130 million for the first season), these are rather tepid viewing numbers, and as covered last week, there are currently no plans for a second season of this one (though it is not been officially cancelled yet). Fans may want to make some noise on the social networks to improve its chances, though ultimately the programming decisions that come after the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery will determine its fate.
Silo (Apple TV, Status: Renewed): This show continued its run in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, holding at the Number 9 slot for the week of its Season 3 finale with an estimated 418 million minutes viewed. It has already been renewed for a fourth and final season, and Apple TV is currently considering a spin-off series.

Futurama will be coming to an end at Hulu with its fourteenth season, but it still has three supersized specials on the way, and there is a chance it could continue at another venue (more on that at this link). That brings the score for the 2026-27 season to 12 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (48% of shows tracked) with only 7 renewals so far (28%).
