Status Updates
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord (Disney+, Status: Renewed): We have not seen the Nielsen numbers for this show yet, but according to Disney+, it pulled in 4.1 million views across its first seven days. And apparently I missed the memo on this one as it had been renewed in advance for a second season. That streamer has typically been doing one-offs with its Star Wars and MCU entries, but they appeared to have confidence that this one would draw in strong viewership and gave it an early greenlight to continue beyond its first year. Its season finale released on Monday, and expect the second year to arrive at some point in 2027.
Paradise (Hulu, Status: Renewed): This mystery-box series improved to Number 4 in the fifth week of its second season, its best position in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings so far. Pulling in an estimated 672 million minutes of viewing, it continues to perform well for Hulu. The show has been renewed for a third season, and it will be wrapping up at that point.
It: Welcome to Derry (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): There still has not been an official renewal announcement for this horror entry yet, but I believe we can pretty much pencil it in at this point. It has performed well for HBO and HBO Max, and series creator Andy Muschietti is assembling a writers’ room for the upcoming season. That includes the creators of Dark and 1899 Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, along with Jessica Mecklenburg (Stranger Things), John McCutcheon (The Penguin), and Donald Joh (Snowpiercer), and Tara Shivkumar (Fallout). Stay tuned for a renewal announcement on this one.
