Amazon’s spin-off from The Boys, Gen V, will be coming to an end as it has been cancelled after a two-season run. That series premiered in Fall 2023 and proved to be a hit at first, charting in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for four weeks and averaging an estimated 335 million minutes of viewing per week during that time. When it returned for its second season in Fall 2025, its viewing per week improved to an average of 412 million minutes, but it dropped out of the charts after two weeks. Amazon went silent on the show’s fate after that, and I moved it to Bubble status a short time back when there were signs emerging that it might not continue to a third season. Most recently, series co-star Jaz Sinclair said that she had heard nothing about a third season of the show yet, while Asa Germann accepted a role on another series. Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg made the following statement about the cancellation:
While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.
Several of the Gen V characters have appeared in the fifth and final season of The Boys, and there are other spin-off plans for the franchise in which they could also make an appearance. Vought Rising is currently in the works with a 2027 premiere target, though that is a prequel series. In addition, The Boys: Mexico is currently in active development.
Fans may try to stage a Call to Action to get the show a third season, but it will be difficult to change the mind of Amazon execs on this one because it is an expensive show to produce. It is also very unlikely that Gen V would move to another venue, seeing as it is part of the lucrative The Boys franchise, which Amazon holds the rights to.
This announcement brings the score for the current season to 14 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (27% of shows tracked) vs. 29 renewed (57%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.
Gen V follows a group of young super-powered students attending Godolkin University, a prestigious school run by the powerful Vought corporation that trains aspiring heroes. As they compete for top rankings and the chance to join the elite superhero team known as The Seven, the students begin uncovering disturbing secrets about the university and the true nature of their powers. It stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, and Asa Germann.
As expected, the number of cancellation and renewal announcements has been increasing lately as we head toward the Upfronts in May when the networks and streaming services announce their lineups for the upcoming season.
