Marvel Zombies Will Return for a Second Season

Sometimes it’s hard to keep the undead down, and that is true with the animated series Marvel Zombies, which is returning for a second season. That one started as a continuation of an episode of What If…?, and it was originally billed as a limited series, as are most of the Disney+ MCU entries these days. But doing that just gives the streaming service the chance to avoid announcing a cancellation while still having the option to bring the show back at some point. Marvel Zombies did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings during its first season run, and it received mixed reviews from critics and fans, currently holding a 66% Tomatometer Score (based on feedback from critics) and a 68% Popcornmeter Score (based on viewers’ response) on Rotten Tomatoes. But animated series tend to be less expensive than live-action and tend to have a longer life on streaming. Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum had the following to say about the upcoming second season while talking with The Escape Pod:

I don’t think it’s a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2. It was crazy. I can’t say anything about it, but it delivers not just on zombies, but also on an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we’re very excited to do.

I have not seen an entry for the second season in the Production Weekly listings, but it appears work has begun, and this one could return as soon as late 2026.

This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2025-26 season to 27 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (57% if shows tracked) vs. 11 cancelled and ending (23%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

In the first season of Marvel Zombies, the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, and a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world. The voice cast includes Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Tessa Thompson, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Hailee Steinfeld, and Wyatt Russell, and it is based on the Marvel comic of the same name.

We are approaching the Upfronts in May when the networks and streaming services announce their lineups for the upcoming season, and starting to get some announcements on the current sci fi TV entries (five this week alone), so I am expecting more renewal and cancellation updates over the next month or so.
