Hulu Has Renewed Paradise for a Third Season

You heard it here first at CancelledSciFi.com, and now Hulu has officially announced a third season renewal for its big box sci fi series Paradise. A listing for Season 3 of that show appeared in the Production Weekly back at the end of January, and the major entertainment media did not pay it any attention. But we covered it here, and I pretty much assumed at that point that all the show needed was an official rubber stamp to continue for another year. We have not seen the Nielsen numbers for the second season yet (those run on about a one month delay), but according to Hulu, it has amassed over 30 million hours of viewership so far. In addition to that, it has been well received by critics and viewers, currently holding an 88% Fresh Ratings and 82% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show has also received four Emmy nominations, which helps to bring more attention to Hulu originals.  (You can read my review of Season 2 at this link.)

Series creator Dan Fogleman has a three-season plan for the show, though the announcement by Hulu did not confirm that the upcoming season will be its last. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer John Hoberg has indicated that the show will be wrapping up: “We know what the end is, and it’s an end that would make it very difficult to make a season four come afterward”. Since production has already begun on the third year, that should reduce the wait between seasons, and the show could return early in 2027.

This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the current season to 22 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (51% of shows tracked) vs. 10 cancelled and ending (23%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

Paradise follows Secret Service agent Xavier Collins who finds the president dead in his home and begins investigating the murder. This leads to a broader conspiracy that raises questions about who is actually in control of the government… and the fate of the world. It stars Sterling K. Brown, Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Aliyah Mastin, and James Marsden.

We are only a short time away from the Upfronts when the networks and streaming services announce their lineups for the upcoming season, so I am expecting more renewal and cancellation announcements over the next month or so.
