Status Updates
Wonder Man (Disney+, Status: Mini-Series): This superhero mini-series entered the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere, landing at the Number 8 spot with an estimated 618 million minutes of viewing. That was better than the Season 2 premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians from December, and Disney+ has put the first episode of the show on YouTube for free, so they seem to be trying to get this one some exposure. It is designated as a mini-series, but there is always the possibility that they could decide to extend it to a second season.
The Orville (Hulu, Status: In Limbo): The third season of this show streamed in 2022, and there has been no official word on its fate since then. There have been a few updates from Seth McFarlane and others suggesting a fourth season is on the way, and an entry for it even showed up in the Production Weekly listings in December 2024, but no renewal announcement. Just recently, though, McFarlane has confirmed that writing is complete for ten episodes. and he needs to find time on his schedule to work on the show:
I will be honest with you: Season four is written. It’s just a question of when we have the time to produce it… The 10 scripts are done. I’m the problem. It’s [a matter of] when I can make that my year, with all the other stuff we have in the works. But we can hit the ground running when it happens.
He has claimed that Hulu is ready to move forward, and it all hinges on him at this point. Fans of the show certainly want more, so hopefully it will get into production before too long.
Paradise (Hulu, Status: Renewal Possible): We have not seen the viewership numbers for this one, but the first season performed well, and expectations are high. If it does get renewed for a third season, though, the show will wrap up at that time. Executive producer and writer John Hoberg has said that series creator Dan Fogelman mapped out a three-season plan for the series, and they intend to stick to that. The third season has already shown up in the Production Weekly listings even though there has not been an official renewal announcement, so it does look like that will move forward.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO, Status: Renewed): This show has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings yet, but HBO continues to report that viewership is strong. Warner Bros. Discovery and Nielsen have indicated that the season finale pulled a season-high 9.5 million viewers across all platforms over its first three days. This show has already been renewed for a second season and will likely continue beyond that.
