Status Updates
Pluribus (Apple TV, Status: Renewal Possible): This series had its debut on November 7th, and according to Apple TV, it is off to a strong start, counting as its most-viewed drama premiere ever. The Streamer did not release any viewing numbers, but Luminate tracked 6.4 million hours viewed for the first two episodes across seven days. The early feedback on the show has been mostly positive, and Vince Gilligan does have plans to continue this one, so we may be hearing a renewal announcement in the next week or so.
Stranger Things (Netflix, Status: Final Season): Anticipation for the fifth and final season of this series is definitely high as all four of the prior seasons are in the Netflix Top 10 the week before its premiere. Season 1 is at the Number 2 slot, Season 4 is at Number 5, Season 2 is at Number 7, and Season 3 is at Number 9. The final season kicks off this week and will wrap up at the end of December. Meanwhile, the Stranger Things animated series is on the way, and more spin-offs could follow that.
It: Welcome to Derry (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): Apart from this show’s second week when the ratings took a drop, it has held pretty steady and is averaging a 0.07 score based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 264K total viewers. The Nielsen ratings do not have as much impact on the show’s fate because HBO is not beholden to sponsors, but they do act as a leading indicator. The early streaming numbers announced by HBO are good, though, so this one should be on track for a second season renewal.
