Zack Snyder’s Twilight of the Gods Cancelled by Netflix after One Season

Zack Snyder's Twilight of the Gods has been cancelled by Netflix after one season

It has been over a year since the Zack Snyder animated series Twilight of the Gods premiered on Netflix, and there has been no official word on its fate. But now the What’s on Netflix site is reporting that the show will not continue to a second season. That news does not come as much of a surprise seeing as it did not make it into the Netflix Top 10 after its release, and it has not developed much of a buzz. It has received decent marks from critics and fans, currently holding a 76% Fresh Rating and 75% Audience Score at Rotten Tomatoes. But it appears only dedicated Snyder fans tuned in for the show, and Netflix execs were not interested in continuing it for them.  Snyder had previously indicated that he had plans for a second season and more, but it appears that will not be happening on this streaming service.  I already had this one On the Bubbble and was at the point that I had assumed it had been quietly cancelled, and now What’s on Netflix (a pretty reliable source of news for that streamer) has confirmed it.  Fans of the show may want to make some noise to support it, and perhaps Snyder could shop it around to other venues.

This counts back to the 2024-25 season and brings that score to 21 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (31% of shows tracked) vs. 35 renewed (52%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

Twilight of the Gods reimagines Norse mythology with a darker, more adult tone, following a mortal king and queen whose lives are torn apart by the gods—specifically Thor—setting off a sweeping tale of vengeance, betrayal, and war between mortals, deities, and supernatural forces. The voice cast includes Sylvia Hoeks, Stuart Martin, Paterson Joseph, Pilou Asbæk, and Rahul Kohli.

The 2025-26 season is a few months in, and there are still several shows from the prior year awaiting word on their fates. Be sure to stay tuned to CancelledSciFi.com and our social media sites for updates and breaking news.
