The Rig has not received a third season renewal yet, but it has developed a following, and fans would like a proper conclusion to the show.
What Is It?
As The Rig begins, a dense fog descends upon the Kinloch Bravo oil rig off the coast of Scotland, causing communications to be cut off and strange phenomena to occur. As the crew struggles to understand what is happening, they are forced to confront not just the forces of nature, but something ancient and possibly sentient beneath the sea.

Why Is It in Danger?
This eco-horror series arrived on Amazon’s Prime Video back in January 2023 with very little in the way of promotion, but it managed to find an audience and develop a modest following. It is co-produced with Wild Mercury Productions, so they appear to be picking up some of the costs, making it more viable for the streaming service. A second season was announced in February 2023, and that arrived in January 2025, again with very little in the way of promotion. Since that time, there has been no word on a third year, though the second season set up a continuation of the story, and if it ends at this point, it will certainly leave fans disappointed and searching for answers.
Series stars Ian Glen and Rochenda Sandall have both suggested there is more story to tell and that they are willing to return for a third year. Neither the first nor second season made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, but as mentioned above, Amazon did very little to promote the show. A final, six-episode season certainly seems like the best way to wrap this one up, but that is not guaranteed at this point, and it could become yet another streaming original truncated before wrapping up its storylines. (You can read my review of the second season at this link.)
What Can Fans Do to Help the Show?
The simple answer on what fans can do is watch The Rig and watch it all the way through. It is only twelve episodes, all less than an hour, and it can be watched in as little as one day. Fans should get together and stage a Call to Action, likely focusing on watch parties to try and get the show to the top of the Amazon streaming charts. And they should be active on the social media sites, bringing this one more attention. If it moves up in the charts and also starts to gain some recognition, that could nudge Amazon in the direction of greenlighting a third season. But the longer it goes without a renewal, the more likely that the contracts for the cast and crew will expire. The Rig has developed a following, and if those fans come together to show their support, they just might get a proper conclusion for the series.
Where Can You Watch It?
Both seasons are still available to stream on Prime Video. They have not been released on DVD or Blu-ray yet, nor is there an option to purchase VOD.
