Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Wednesday (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This supernatural dramedy returned to the top of the Nielsen charts for the week that the second half of its second season was released, pulling in an impressive 3.3 billion minutes of viewing (based on Nielsen estimates). This show has already been renewed for a third season, and an Uncle Fester spin-off series is in the works.

Alien: Earth (FX/Hulu, Status: Renewal Possible): This Alien prequel series improved one slot in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings with its fifth episode. It moved to the Number 9 slot and pulled in an estimated 366 million minutes of viewing. There has been no word on a second season of this yet, and the linear ratings on FX have not been very strong, so fans may want to make some noise to convince network execs to give it a renewal.

Peacemaker (HBO Max, Status: On the Bubble): This DCEU series has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings after three weeks of streaming availability which suggests that the viewership is under-performing. As reported last week, James Gunn has said there is nothing current in works for a third season, so I am moving this one to Bubble status for now. I doubt they will announce a cancellation, though, more likely Gunn will just say that the show is ended for now. The characters will be appearing in other DCEU properties, but a third season of the show may not happen, or it could be a long wait.

Krapopolis (Fox, Status: Renewed): This animated fantasy comedy returned for its third season yet only posted a 0.12 rating based on same-day viewing with 541K total viewers for its premiere. It did not have the benefit of a lead-in from football, and it was the lowest-rated of Fox’s four animated shows on Sunday night. But this one has already been renewed through its sixth season, so it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

Halo (Netflix, Status: Cancelled): This video game-based series had its premiere on Netflix October 1st, with both seasons available for streaming, and according to IGN it got up to Number 4 on the daily Netflix charts. However, it did not make it to the Weekly Top 10, so perhaps it had a quick surge and dropped out. But that may provide some good news for fans still holding out hope for a third season. Paramount+ cancelled the show after two seasons, but it may find life on its new home, and perhaps Netflix will consider greenlighting a third season. More on that at this link.
