Status Updates
Alien: Earth (FX, Status: Renewal Possible): The Nielsen Streaming Rankings finally caught up to the premiere week of this show (they are on about a month delay), and it placed at the Number 7 slot with an estimated 464 million minutes viewed, which is quite good for Hulu. As far as the linear numbers, last Tuesday’s episode improved to a season high 0.12 score based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 468K total viewers. So this one appears to be on track for a second season renewal, and I am expecting an announcement around the time that its season finale arrives next week.
Wednesday (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This show spent a second week at Number 1 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, pulling in an estimated 2.1 billion minutes of viewing. It was also at Number 2 in the most recent Netflix Top 10 with 116.4 million hours watched across 15 million accounts. It has already been renewed for a third season, and I expect it to stick around for a while. In addition, a spin-off series focusing on Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester is in the works.
The Penguin (HBO, Status: Ended): The “will they or won’t they?” question on a second season of this show continues to linger. After completing filming on The Batman II, Matt Reeves said that they are “in discussions” on another season of the show focusing on the Penguin. Colin Farrell previously indicated that he did not want to return to the role, but if enough money is involved, he could change his mind. And with all the Emmy attention the series received, HBO may have an interest in bringing this one back.
