Cancellation Watch: Creepshow Is Done at Shudder, Twisted Metal Misses the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Creepshow (Shudder, Status: Cancelled): You heard it here first that the horror anthology Creepshow will not continue to a fifth season, and now that appears to have been confirmed. The fourth season premiered almost two years ago, and there had been no word on the show’s fate after that. I counted it as having been quietly cancelled a while back, and a source close to the network has confirmed that only four seasons of the show were planned. That one did perform well for Shudder in viewership, and it was not too expensive to produce, but that streamer seems to be moving away from ongoing scripted programming with a focus on original films. As a final farewell to Creepshow fans, a Blu-ray boxed-set of the entire series will be released on November 11th.

Twisted Metal (Peacock, Status: Renewal Possible): This post-apocalyptic series had its second season premiere on July 31st, but it did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings that week (those numbers are on about a one-month delay). That is not surprising, though, as Peacock does not get many of its originals into the Nielsen Top 10. Twisted Metal has been topping the Peacock charts, though, and I like its chances of getting a third season at this point (you can read my review of the series at this link).

Alien: Earth (FX, Status: Renewal Possible): This series slipped to a 0.07 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 398K total viewers for its third airing last Tuesday. That is getting to be on the low side for a big-dollar basic cable entry, but it could be making up the slack with digital and delayed viewing. At this point, I still consider it to be doing okay with a decent shot at a second season renewal.

Eyes of Wakanda (Disney+, Status: Mini-Series): This MCU mini-series did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week of its premiere, but that is not uncommon for animated entries. There are no plans to continue it beyond its initial four-episode run at this point, but it is possible that it could get a sequel series somewhere down the road.
