Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings for August 14th:
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5 (Paramount+)
This Trek entry is currently about halfway through its third season, and work is already beginning on its fifth season which was announced in June 2025. The good news is that it will cut down on the hiatus between seasons, with the fourth year likely premiering in 2026 and the fifth season probably following in 2027. But this may also indicate that Skydance/Paramount wants to wrap up the franchise and possibly sell it to another studio. Strange New Worlds will end with its fifth season, and the upcoming Starfleet Academy already has its second season in production, with rumors that it will wrap up at that point. No other shows are actively in the works for the franchise, so Skydance/Paramount execs could put Trek on the auction block at that point. This is only speculation on my part at the moment, but there have been rumors circulating that the franchise could be for sale.
The Creep Tapes Season 3 (Shudder)
The third season of this horror series appeared on the latest Production Weekly list, even though there has been no official renewal announcement yet. The same thing happened in January 2025 when the second season showed up on the list, and that was followed by a renewal announcement. So I take this as a pretty good indication that the show will be continuing to a third year.
One Piece Season 3 (Shudder)
The third season renewal of this show was announced last week ahead of its second season premiere (which is scheduled to arrive in 2026). This will give the show a jump on its third year and hopefully cut down on the long hiatus between seasons (the first season premiered two years ago). There is no indication if this one will be wrapping up with its third season, but seeing as it is expensive to produce, Netflix may be looking at that or its fourth year as an endpoint.
Other genre entries from the listings for August 14th: Mayfair Witches Season 3 (AMC), The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4 (AMC), Wednesday Season 3 (Netflix).
