Status Updates
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO, Status: Upcoming): The first season of this Game of Thrones prequel is in production with most of the filming completed, and word is that it could be getting a renewal through its third season. HBO executive Francesca Orsi already made the following statement about the show:
We’re already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total. We’re not picking it up officially, but it’s looking very good. We’re looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there’s three novellas.
An official renewal announcement has not been made yet, but it does look likely at this point. The first season of the show is targeted for a Winter 2026 premiere.
The Sandman (Netflix, Status: Cancelled): This supernatural drama made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere, climbing to the Number 6 slot with an estimated 611 million minutes of viewing. That is behind the one billion minutes of viewing it debuted with for its first season, and even though it is still in the Netflix charts, its overall Season 2 viewership is down. Fans need to keep watching to get those viewing stats up if they want to convince Netflix to reverse the cancellation or another venue to pick this one up, as I discuss in more detail at this link.
Ironheart (Disney+, Status: Mini-Series): This show spent a second week in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, placing at Number 7 with an estimated 536 million minutes watched. Those are decent numbers for a Disney+ entry and could convince them to carry it on with more episodes at some point. But for now, it maintains its mini-series status seeing as no second season is currently planned.
Nautilus (AMC, Status: Cancelled): This Captain Nemo prequel slipped to a 0.02 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 396K total viewers for its latest episode. Those numbers are definitely not strong enough to convince AMC to try and keep this one going, or another venue to pick it up. It may be doing better in digital and/or delayed viewing, and fans need to continue to make noise to support the show if they want the voyage to continue. I discuss that in more detail at this link.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter (TNT, Status: Renewed): This series posted a 0.05 rating in the demo with 373K total viewers for its Season 1 finale. Overall, it averaged a 0.05 score throughout its first season which is decent for a lower-cost series on a basic cable channel. This one was renewed in advance and will return in 2026 for its second year.
