Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.
Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:
Wednesday (Netflix): Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It’s the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting. She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn’t. The first four eps of Season 2 will be available to stream on Wednesday. The remaining eps will be available September 3.
Demascus (Tubi TV): A 33-year-old Black man on a know-thyself mission begins an experimental immersion therapy that sends him into alternate timelines of his own life. The first episode will be available for streaming on Thursday.
Schedule Notes:
Wrapping up this week is Resident Alien which has its series finale on Friday. That show has been cancelled by USA, but fans are rallying to save the show (more on that at this link). Also wrapping up is The Librarians: The Next Chapter which has its season finale on Monday. That show has been renewed for a second year. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for August and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:
Production has started on the third season of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. That is a pretty elaborate show to produce, though, meaning that it will likely be 2027 before the new season makes it to streaming. Filming has begun on Netflix’s 3 Body Problem Season 2 which is another big-budget show, and it will likely be targeting a late-2026 or early-2027 premiere. The streamer is casting four new roles the upcoming season, though no actors have been named yet. Meanwhile, filming on the Disney+ Vision series has wrapped which should have that on track for an early 2026 premiere.
Missed among the many big announcements coming out of Comic Con last week was the return of Amazon’s sci fi comedy Upload for its fourth and final season. That will premiere August 25th, and you can see a sneak peek below.

Sci Fi TV Trailers:
Upload (Prime Video): Sentient AI rapidly turns evil, threatening to wipe out Lakeview and the world. On top of greedy executives, lingering mysteries, plus heartbreak in VR and IRL, our characters are tested like never before. The only way they can get through it all and save humanity from deletion is by teaming up one last time. Season 4 premieres August 25th.
