The Legend of Vox Machina Will End with Its Fifth Season

The animated fantasy series The Legend of Vox Machina has been renewed for a fifth season ahead of its fourth season premiere, and that will be its last. Announced at San Diego Comic Con, this will give the show a chance to wrap up its storylines and also a decent run for a streaming original at five seasons and 60 episodes. Voice actors and executive producers Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham had the following to say about the show coming to an end:

It’s so rare for any television series to get to tell a complete story, beginning to end, exactly as it was envisioned. We’re so grateful to our fans, the critters, our partners at Prime Video, and the original Kickstarter backers for bringing this show to life, and turning the numbskulls of Vox Machina into animation legends.

Legend of Vox Machina has proven quite popular in its run on Prime Video, and a new series from the Critical Role team–The Mighty Nein–is scheduled to arrive on the streamer in November (you can see the sneak peak at this link.). The upcoming fourth season of Vox Machina will not arrive until 2026, and that “finds our heroes scattered across the globe on separate journeys, but when a cataclysmic threat befalls Exandria — they must reunite to face a foe darker than they could imagine”.

The series is already counted as renewed for the current year, so this announcement does not impact the Cancellation Score for the 2024-25 season. That currently stands at 18 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (29% of shows tracked) vs. 30 renewed (48%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated fantasy series that follows a ragtag band of misfit adventurers as they take on deadly quests, dark magic, and powerful foes across the land of Exandria. What starts as a job to pay off a bar tab turns into a battle to save the realm from ancient evil. The voice cast includes Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray and it is based on the Critical Role web series.

The 2024-25 season is almost done, but I expect more announcements to come out of Comic Con this weekend. Be sure to stay tuned to CancelledSciFi.com and our social media sites for updates and breaking news.
