Invincible Has Received a Fifth Season Renewal from Amazon

Amazon has given a fifth season renewal to its animated superhero series Invincible, months ahead of its Season 4 premiere which is scheduled for later this year. That show has proven popular for Prime Video so far, spending five weeks in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings earlier this year with its third season and averaging an estimated 478 million minutes of viewing per week during that period. It also holds an aggregate 99% Fresh Rating (one point shy of perfect) and 91% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Matthew Rhys will be joining the voice cast in the upcoming fourth season, possibly as the villain Thragg. The early renewal for the show’s fifth year will allow production to get started on that and will cut down on the hiatus between seasons.  The fourth season premiere date has not been announced yet, but it is expected to arrive by December 2025.

This announcement does not impact the Cancellation/Renewal Score for the 2024-25 season because Invincible had already been renewed for a fourth season. The current score stands at 30 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (48% of shows tracked) vs. 17 cancelled and ending (27%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

Invincible focuses on the titular hero who is the son of the powerful superhero Omni-Man. But as he starts up his career as a crime fighter, he learns that his father has some dark secrets in his past. The voice cast includes Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, J. K. Simmons, Zachary Quinto, and Gillian Jacobs and it is based on the long-running comic of the same name by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.

The 2024-25 season is almost done, but I expect more announcements are on the way as the streaming services and networks get their schedules set for next year. Be sure to stay tuned to CancelledSciFi.com and our social media sites for updates and breaking news.
