Cancellation Watch: Resident Alien Has a Decent Start, Andor Hits Series High, and More

Premiere for Resident Alien Season 4 on USA/Syfy

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Resident Alien (USA/Syfy, Status: Renewal Possible): This series returned for its fourth season this last Friday pulling a 0.07 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 351 million total viewers on the USA Network. It also had a 0.02 score with 184 million viewers for its simulcast on Syfy. Those numbers may not look great at first glance, but for a basic cable show these days, they are actually not bad, especially considering it is airing outside of Prime Time at the 11 PM EST hour. We will see how it tracks from here, but if the show can maintain anywhere near this level, it has a shot at a fifth season renewal.

Andor (Disney+, Status: Ending): This Star Wars entry held at Number 3 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a second straight week, pulling in an estimated 830 million minutes of viewing. That marks a highpoint for the series in weekly viewing, but this one was planned for two seasons and could only go so far considering the events of Rogue One which it leads into.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter (TNT, Status: Renewed): This series aired in its regular Monday 9 PM EST timeslot for the first time last week and pulled a 0.05 rating in the demo with 319 million total viewers. That is not bad for basic cable these days, and the show has already been renewed for a second season.

SurrealEstate (Syfy, Status: On the Bubble): This show wrapped up its third season last week, pulling a 0.02 rating in the demo with 165 million total viewers for its finale. Its numbers have been on the low side all season, and I have had it On the Bubble for several weeks. Fans should certainly make some noise on the social networks to bring this one more attention if they want it to continue to a fourth season.
