Cancellation Watch: Andor Enters the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, Time Could Be Running Out for Doctor Who, and More

Andor will end with Season 2 and will not continue to Season 3

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Andor (Disney+, Status: Ending): This series made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its second season premiere, placing at Number 4 with an estimated 721 million minutes of viewing during the week. It was designed in advance as a two-season show and will be ending, but it did at least manage to perform well for the franchise and could lead to more limited-run Star Wars entries on Disney+.

The Last of Us (HBO, Status: Renewed): This post-apocalyptic entry improved to Number 1 in the Nielsen Rankings for acquired shows for the second week of its second season, pulling in an estimated 937 million minutes of viewing. The early numbers for the season finale that aired this past Sunday show a drop-off, but this one has already been renewed for a third season and will likely be allowed to complete its four-year plan.

Doctor Who (Disney+/BBC, Status: On the Bubble): The fifteenth season of this show (or second, depending on which numbering you use) has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for its run on Disney+ so far and the ratings across the pond in Britain continue to lag. Russell T. Davies has scripts written for upcoming seasons, but he has also suggested that the show could go on hiatus, and there are rumors that Ncuti Gatwa could be leaving. I am moving this one to Bubble status, and fans will certainly want to make some noise for this one, voting for it in our Spring poll and also staging a Call to Action on the social networks.

Love Death + Robots (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated anthology improved to Number 4 in the Netflix Top 10 in the second week of its fourth season with seven million hours watched across 3.4 million households. But overall, its numbers are down compared to its third year and reaction to the current season has been mixed. The creative team wants to continue to a fifth season, but Netflix has not renewed it yet and fans should probably start making some noise to support the series.
