Sci Fi TV Production Report: Work Begins on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, and More

Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.

Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings from May 1st:

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4 (AMC)

This TWD sequel series wrapped up its second season in Fall 2024 and was renewed for a third season. And now Season 4 is showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings even though that has not been officially announced yet. It likely indicates a start of pre-production which would include gathering together a writer’s room to plan out that season. And it’s possible that we will not get an official renewal until the third year arrives (which will likely be in Fall 2025). But this is AMC’s signature franchise, and even though the spin-offs have not drawn massive viewership, they are among the highest-rated shows on the cable channel. So consider a fourth season of Daryl Dixon likely and we could hear an announcement on this soon.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon follows Daryl Dixon who mysteriously washes ashore in France after he goes searching for Rick Grimes. He embarks on a perilous journey across the country, seeking a way back home while confronting evolved walkers and hostile factions. As he navigates this unfamiliar terrain, Daryl forms unexpected bonds that challenge his solitary nature and complicate his mission. It stars Norman Reedus, Clémence Poésy, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Laïka Blanc-Francard, Anne Charrier, and Melissa McBride.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 (Disney+)

Casting has been underway for the third season of this fantasy series, and it was previously announced that filming would begin in July 2025. This is the third time that the series has appeared in the Production Weekly listngs this year, so perhaps that indicates production is moving forward and filming will start soon on the upcoming season, which will be adapting The Titan’s Curse from the book series. Season 2 of the series currently has a release window of December 2025.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson, who discovers he’s a demigod and embarks on a perilous quest to retrieve Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt and prevent a war among the gods. With the help of his friends Annabeth and Grover, Percy navigates a world filled with mythological creatures and challenges, all while coming to terms with his newfound identity. It stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Daniel Diemer, and Dior Goodjohn.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 (Apple TV+)

I am not certain why this one is showing up in Production Weekly now because it has previously been announced that the second season had completed filming. Perhaps they are shooting new scenes or perhaps this indicates the show is moving into post-production. It was previously looking like the second season might be available in Fall 2025 (about two years after the first season premiered), and the show may still be on track for that.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows siblings Cate and Kentaro as they investigate their family’s connection to the secretive organization Monarch, uncovering hidden truths about their father’s past and the existence of giant creatures known as Titans. Set across two timelines—2015 and the 1950s—the story intertwines their journey with that of Army officer Lee Shaw, revealing decades of secrets and the global impact of these colossal beings. It stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Wyatt Russell, and Kurt Russell.

Supacell Season 2 (Netflix)

Pre-production began on the second season of this superhero series in August 2024, and with it showing up again in the Production Weekly listings, that appears to suggest that filming will start for this one soon. The first season premiered in Summer 2024, and this could have the second year on track for an early 2026 bow.

Supacell focuses on five black South Londoners who unexpectedly develop superpowers linked to a shared family history of sickle cell disease. As they grapple with their newfound abilities, they must evade a secretive organization intent on controlling them, all while one man strives to unite them to save the woman he loves. It stars Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Eddie Marsan, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, and Calvin Demba.

Other genre entries from the listings for May 15th and May 22nd: 3 Body Problem Season 2 (Netflix), Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (Disney+), Fallout Season 3 (Prime Video), From Season 4 (MGM+), School Spirits Season 3 (Paramount+), The Last of Us Season 3 (HBO).
