Sci Fi TV Highlights: Premiere for The Librarians: The Next Chapter, Season Finale for The Last of Us, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:

The Librarians: The Next Chapter (TNT): Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan), a “Librarian” from the past who time traveled from 1847 and now finds himself stuck in the present. When Vikram returns to his castle in Belgrade, Serbia and discovers that it is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. With the help of a new team of eclectic heroes, including a savant in world history, a scientific genius, and a highly skilled Guardian, Vikram has only six months to clean up the mess he made. Premieres Sunday after the NBA Playoff game.

Schedule Notes:

For the premiere of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, it looks like the time will depend on the NBA Playoffs. It was originally scheduled for 8 PM EST on Sunday, but the local listings are currently showing 11:30 PM EST after the game. So keep an eye on the listings in your area to see if that changes. Wrapping up this week is HBO’s The Last of Us which has its Season 2 finale on Sunday. That show has already been renewed for a third year. Also wrapping up is the encore run of Paradise on ABC. The final two episodes of that Hulu series will air on Monday night, and that one has been renewed for a second season. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for May and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Krysten Ritter will be returning to the role of Jessica Jones in the upcoming second season of Daredevil: Born Again as confirmed at Disney’s Upfront presentation this past week. There were already rumors to that affect floating around, and both Luke Cage and Iron Fist were mentioned for a possible return as well. The Punisher, played by John Bernthal, has already appeared in the first season and will return in the show’s second year. Whether this will lead to any of these characters spinning off to their own shows remains to be seen. (A Punisher special is planned at this point, but not an ongoing series.)

This past week brought several renewal and cancellation announcements for sci fi and fantasy shows. Among the renewals, Amazon has given the greenlight to a third season of Fallout ahead of its second season premiere which will be in December 2025, and Fox has extended its animated comedy Krapopolis to a fifth season. As for the cancellations, Amazon has decided not to go forward with a second season of its supernatural drama The Bondsman, and Netflix will not be picking up a third season of Star Trek: Prodigy.
