Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
Status Updates
The Bondsman (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama from Amazon hit the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere, coming in at the Number 9 slot with an estimated 563 million minutes of viewing. Considering that it is an unknown property that was poorly promoted by the streamer, that has to be considered encouraging. And it if spends another week or two in the rankings, perhaps it will get the greenlight for a second season.
The Eternaut (Netflix, Status: Renewed): I have not covered this Argentinian post-apocalyptic series since I mostly focus on English-language shows aimed at the U.S. market, but it is worth mentioning that it has been renewed for a second season. It topped the Netflix Non-English-Language charts the week of its premiere, pulling in an impressive 58.3 million hours of viewing across 10.8 million households, and it has been developing some notable buzz. The second season will likely debut at some point in 2026.
SurrealEstate (Syfy, Status: On the Bubble): This series fell out of the Cable Top 150 with its most recent episode, which is the second time that has happened this season. That keeps this one firmly On the Bubble, and we could be hearing an announcement on it when NBCUniversal has its Upfront presentation next week. Fans should certainly make some noise on the social networks to support the show, because it seems to be sliding closer and closer to cancellation at this point.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:
There were no cancellation or renewal announcements this past week, but I do expect to hear some news over the next few days. The Upfronts where the networks and streamers present their upcoming schedules to the sponsors started this week and will kick into high gear next week, and some announcements should be coming from that. For the current season, the score is at 28 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries ((48% of shows tracked) vs. 15 cancelled and ending (26%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score for the current and prior seasons throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.
