Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings from May 1st:
3 Body Problem Season 2 (Netflix): There is good news and bad news on this show. The good news is that Season 2 and 3 will shoot back to back to reduce the wait between seasons, and work has already started on that. However, according to Collider, production will continue through August 2027 which means the second season will likely not premiere until the end of that year or early 2028. If the latter is true, that will result in nearly a four-year wait between the first and second seasons. Perhaps they will focus production more heavily on the second year to get that out sooner, but in any case, it looks like fans will just have to re-read the novels a few times or watch the Chinese adaptation over on Prime Video while waiting for new episodes of the Netflix series.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 (Disney+): Disney announced this show’s renewal in March of this year and production is now beginning on that. The third season will adapt The Titan’s Curse and should premiere early to mid 2026.
From Season 4 (MGM+): Filming was expected to begin on the fourth season of this series in Summer, and it is showing up in the latest listings from Production Weekly. That could have it on track for a late 2025 premiere, but more likely this one will be back early in 2026.
Devil May Cry Season 2 (Netflix): This fantasy Anime proved a hit for Netflix in its first season, and work on the second year has begun according to the latest listings from Production Weekly. That should have it on track for an early 2026 premiere.
Other genre entries from the listings for April 17th and April 24th: Crystal Lake (Peacock), Dune: Prophecy Season 2 (HBO), Harry Potter (HBO), School Spirits Season 3 (Paramount+), The Last of Us Season 3 (HBO)
