The Planned Second Season of Soulmates Has Been Cancelled by AMC

AMC has unrenewed yet another show as the planned second season of the sci fi anthology Soulmates will not be going forward. That show premiered back in October 2020 and was barely noticed but it had been picked up for a second season prior to its debut. It went into limbo due to the COVID-related production shutdowns and then was apparently quietly cancelled last year because co-creator Brett Goldstein was busy with Ted Lasso and Shrinking over at Apple TV+. Soulmates did not draw much in the way of viewership, only averaging around 200K total viewers across its six-episode first-season run according to THR. Of course, it received very little in the way of promotion from its network. This is now the third genre entry that has had its planned second season scrapped by AMC as the network has been going through behind-the-scenes shakeups. The sci fi series Moonhaven was cancelled last year and the cancellation of the Anime Pantheon was announced this year even though the second season was already completed. Both of those could move to different venues, but it looks like Soulmates could be done.

That show was part of the 2020-21 season, so it is not included in the Cancellation/Renewal Scores that I have currently been tracking. You can see the detailed list of shows from the current season and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Soulmates is an anthology series that explores the use of a scientific breakthrough that helps people to find their soulmates. Set in the near future, each episode follows a different character as they deal with the impact of this technology on their lives and relationships. First season guest stars included Sarah Snook, David Costabile, Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Charlie Heaton.
