We are more than a month into Mid-Season and have enough ratings data after the Winter hiatus to see where the broadcast network shows stand at this point. Among the Big Four (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC), Ghosts is still the top-rated genre entry and it held steady in the rankings from the last time that I compiled these numbers. It remains in the Top 30 at the Number 23 slot and it is the second highest-rated comedy on CBS with an average score of 0.56 based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic and 6.4 million total viewers. Not surprisingly, that one has been renewed for a third season.
NBC’s La Brea has slipped from the Number 41 slot down to Number 59 and it is averaging a 0.40 rating with 3.3 million total viewers. That one has been renewed for a third season, but it looks like that will be its last. Quantum Leap also slipped in the rankings, from Number 50 to Number 73, averaging a 0.35 rating with 2.4 million total viewers. But despite the fact that it is one of NBC’s lowest rated dramas, the network still gave it the greenlight for a second season.
ABC’s supernatural dramedy Not Dead Yet just arrived last week and it starts out at Number 56 in the rankings. It is the third highest-rated comedy on the network, so if it holds around there it could continue into a second season.
Below are the Top 30 broadcast network shows (plus the other genre entries) for non-repeat, non-special, and non-sports programming based on ratings results through February 12th. The comparisons are against ratings averages for other shows in the same category (drama, comedy, reality, etc.) on the same network and also against the overall average for the network. Over on The CW, The Winchesters took a notable drop in the rankings, going from Number 3 at the end of Fall to Number 7. That is in a large part due to scheduling hi-jinks on the part of network execs starting in January and could lead to the show getting sent to the Network Executioner after one season (I discuss that in more detail at this link).
The Flash just returned for its ninth season last week and it takes over the Number 3 slot and is also the highest rated genre entry on the network. That show is currently in its final season. Kung Fu just returned from hiatus, but its numbers are not very encouraging as it slipped from Number 7 to Number 11 in the rankings. That show is On the Bubble–along with all the current genre entries on the network–which I discuss in more detail at this link. Note that Stargirl remains in the Top 10 for that network based on its Fall performance, but that one has already been cancelled.
