Warrior Nun Cancelled by Netflix After Two Seasons

The cancellation announcements are picking up as we approach the end of the year, and the Netflix Red Queen has taken down yet another show with her “Off With Their Heads!” verdict. The supernatural drama Warrior Nun has been cancelled by the streamer after its second season. Series creator Simon Barry posted the following statement on Twitter:

I was on the verge of moving that show to Bubble status after it fell out of the Netflix Top 10 following a three-week run for its second season. It had decent viewership numbers, rising as high as Number 5 in the charts with 28 million hours viewed in the second week of its second season. It also debuted in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings last week at Number 4 with 595 million minutes viewed. But Netflix is pretty demanding on its viewership numbers, and shows like The Midnight Club, The Imperfects, and Fate: The Winx Saga were also cancelled after three weeks on the Netflix charts.  Basically, the streamer has made it clear that two to three weeks in the charts is not enough to get most shows renewed.

Warrior Nun has definitely built up a notable following so far, and I expect the fans to fight for a third season. The chances of it moving to a different venue are not great seeing as Netflix holds the rights to the property likely for at least two years. But Creator Simon Barry has indicated that they are looking into the possibility of finding it a new home. The show is currently leading in our Save My Show poll and a loud Call to Action on social networks may help get it back for another year or perhaps a final movie.

Warrior Nun follows a young woman who discovers that she is part of an ancient order tasked with fighting demons and other supernatural beings on Earth. She also learns that both heaven and hell have an interest in her fate. It stars Alba Baptista, Toya Turner, Thekla Reuten, Lorena Andrea, and Kristina Tonteri-Young and comes from Simon Barry (ContinuumVan Helsing).

  1. Not sure what the plan is but switching your content to cheap “reality” TV in favor of making quality drama is the mistake the terrestrial channels made. Which allowed for the streaming services to flourish in the first place. The danger is if they don’t fill this the download apps will.
