Amazon Renews Outer Range and the Legend of Vox Machina, Hulu Renews Solar Opposites

Yesterday afternoon brought three renewal announcements including one that we have been waiting on for a while. Amazon’s modern western with a sci fi twist Outer Range will be returning for a second season. That show debuted back in April and pulled decent viewership according to the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, but there had been no word on its fate for months. The streamer has now given it a second-season renewal with the show likely returning at some point in 2023. Brian Watkins will be stepping down as showrunner for the second year, but will remain onboard as executive producer. Charles Murray (Luke Cage) will be coming on as showrunner for the new season.

Also announced by Amazon, the animated fantasy series Legend of Vox Machina will be returning for a third season.  That Dungeon and Dragons-inspired show is based on the characters and adventures featured in the Critical Role web series.  It received a second-season renewal ahead of the premiere for its first year and is now getting a third-season nod.  The second year is set to premiere in January 2023.

Yesterday’s third renewal announcement came from Hulu as that streamer has given the greenlight to its animated comedy Solar Opposites for a fifth season.  That show had already received an early renewal through its fourth season and the third year had its premiere in July 2022.  It did not place in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, but the show is apparently performing well enough that Hulu has decided to bring it back for a fifth season.  That one comes from Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and the fourth season is set to premiere in 2023.
