Why Watch It?

Dark Matter arrived on Syfy in 2015 at a time that the network was going back to its sci fi roots. It started out following six people who wake up on a starship with their memories gone and who must take control of the ship and figure out their place in a hostile galaxy. As the show progressed, these six began to learn more about their past as they also became tangled in intergalactic politics. The show delivered some interesting characters that at first distrusted each other then started to learn to work together as they realized that they had no one else they could rely upon. It also developed an interesting galaxy with corporate and political intrigue and danger around every corner. Sadly, the show was cut short after its third season and never had the chance to resolve its storylines. A raucous fan campaign followed and co-creator Joseph Mallozzi has made multiple attempts to bring the show back including pitching a six-episode mini-series that could act as a wrap-up (more on all that at this link). There has been no word on his efforts in a while, but perhaps the new streaming home (see below) will give fans the opportunity to show that this series has a strong following and should be given another chance.

Where Is It Streaming?

Dark Matter was available for streaming on Netflix and fans lobbied that service to pick it up for a fourth season but with no success. It has now moved over to The CW’s free streaming service (formerly called CWSeed) as one of many shows they have added to bolster their content. All three seasons are available to stream for free (with ads). Other past genre entries of interest available there include Lost Girl, Brain Dead, Emergence, and Wayward Pines. With Dark Matter streaming on The CW’s website and app for free, now might be the time for fans to stage viewing parties and possibly get the show trending again. Perhaps that will get it some attention and maybe revive efforts to get the show at least one more season to wrap up its storylines.
