AMC Gives Interview With The Vampire an Early Season 2 Renewal

AMC is apparently banking on Interview With The Vampire (based on the Anne Rice novels) becoming their next big hit as they have already committed to a second season just a few days before the first season is set to premiere. AMC president of original programming Dan McDermott had the following to say about the show:

The scope and breadth of this show, and what Mark and Rolin have delivered, is just stupendous. They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview in a wonderful way, and we’re incredibly proud. From the set build, to production design, costumes and more — no detail was overlooked. This stellar cast deliver powerful performances that emotionally connect us to these characters and their humanity. We look forward to sharing the final product of this extraordinary effort with audiences in just a few short days and are thrilled that this story will continue. This is only the beginning of an entire Universe featuring enthralling stories and characters that capture the spirit of Anne Rice’s amazing work.

The renewal comes as no surprise because AMC has invested heavily in the Anne Rice properties and will stick with it for at least a couple of seasons to give it time to build its audience. Also, the early renewal gets the show a jumpstart on its second year (which will consist of eight episodes) and reduces the time between seasons. AMC is also working on a series based on Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches books which is set for a 2023 premiere. There is no word at this point on whether it will have ties to the vampire show.

Interview With The Vampire follows the epic and bloody story of the immortal vampires Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt and Claudia as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. It stars Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Bailey Bass, and Eric Bogosian and it is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, October 2nd.
