Cancellation Watch: Ms. Marvel Returns to the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, Legacies Slips, and More

Nielsen Streaming Top 10

Disney+’s Ms. Marvel made a return to the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for originals for the week of July 4th to 10th.  It placed at Number 7 for the second to last week of its first season with an estimated 295 million minutes viewed.  There has been no word on a renewal for that one yet.  Netflix’s Stranger Things held steady at the Number 1 slot with 4.8 billion minutes of viewing while The Umbrella Academy slipped to Number 3 with 1.3 million minutes.  Amazon’s The Boys held at Number 4, but its viewing improved to 1.1 billion minutes for the week of its Season 3 finale.  That one has been renewed for a fourth season.  The AMC+ series Moonhaven had its premiere that week, but Nielsen is not currently tracking the viewing for that streamer.  In the Top 10 for acquired shows, Legacies slipped to Number 6 with 468 million minutes viewed, but fans may try to get that cancelled series trending as they fight for a fifth season.  Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the streaming charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Netflix Top 10:

All three seasons of Manifest made it into the Netflix Top 10 for English language shows for the week of July 25th to 31st as fans are apparently anticipating the arrival of the fourth season this Fall.  A premiere date for that has not been set yet.  Stranger Things Season 4 held at the Number 2 slot and had 58 million hours watched.  Resident Evil slipped to Number 5 in its third week and had 28 million hours watched.  That one could be on track for a second season.  The Umbrella Academy Season 3 fell out of the Top 10 after four weeks, but that show should be headed to a fourth season.  Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the Netflix charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Netflix Top 10 for the Week of Jul-25 to Jul-31

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

The CW’s Tom Swift slipped to a 0.03 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 243K total viewers for its series finale last Tuesday.  That show was cancelled by the network earlier in the Summer.  On Monday, Roswell New Mexico slipped to a 0.04 score with 441K total viewers.  That show has also been cancelled by The CW.

Over on FX on Tuesday, What We Do in the Shadows improved to a 0.12 rating with 391K total viewers.  That one has been renewed through its sixth season.  On Adult Swim on Thursday, Primal rebounded to a 0.11 score with 231K total viewers as it could be on track for a third season.

On Sunday on HBO, Westworld ticked up to a 0.07 rating with 321K total viewers.  Its linear viewing remains low and it has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, so HBO could be looking at wrapping that one up sooner rather than later.  Though I would expect it to at least get a final season.
