Y: The Last Man Has Been Cancelled After One Season

The post-apocalyptic series Y: The Last Man, based on the comic of the same name, will not be continuing to a second season.  The show debuted September 13th on Hulu under the FX on Hulu banner.  The first three episodes were released that day, though they did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Top 10.  Showrunner Eliza Clark made the announcement on her Twitter Feed:

She indicates that they will be shopping the show around to other venues, though it is unclear what sort of deal exists with FX/Hulu for the airing rights. Netflix typically has a lock on its originals for at least two years and Hulu may have similar arrangements in place. Y: The Last Man was long in development with multiple behind-the-scenes issues and it is unclear if that may have contributed to the cancellation decision. The show wraps up its first season on November 1st, and fans should definitely take to the social networks with a Call to Action to help it find a new home

Y: The Last Man takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious cataclysmic event killed every mammalwith a Y chromosome on the planet except for one man and his pet monkey. The two travel through a world where women try to rebuild society on their own. It stars Diane Lane, Ashley Romans, Ben Schnetzer, Olivia Thirlby, and Juliana Canfield and it is based on the comic book series created by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

  1. Welp, another sci-fi series that I was watching bites the dust… It wasn’t anything great so far but it kept my interest.

  2. From what I’ve seen of the show, just a couple of episodes, it has been lackluster. Still, the cancellation is a bad thing. On the one hand, fans of established franchises always complain that woke culture should stay out of their beloved universes and learn to tell good in-universe stories instead—and imho they’re right—, and put their novel politics, their ideas about “gender”, “identity”, “diversity” etc. into their own films and shows, develop new franchises that cater more to the woke demographic. Now that they did that with “Y”, it gets canceled. (Maybe they were too restrained?) I think it deserves to continue… we never got to see it play out.
