The Charts: Under the Dome Starts Out in the Number 2 Slot

Chart activity for sci fi / fantasy TV shows for the week of June 30th through July 6th:

CBS Summer sci fi entry Under the Dome may have debuted down last week, but it still registered high in the charts. The Season 2 premiere episode took the Number 2 slot in both the ratings in the 18-49 demographic and in total viewers for the broadcast networks meaning that relatively speaking it is still doing well. The show’s ratings dropped further this week, but it should still land in the Top 10 when the full week’s activity is tallied. That, along with an exclusive streaming deal that CBS has set up with Amazon, should help keep the show alive for now as long as its numbers do not keep sinking. For cable shows, The Last Ship came in at the Number 12 slot in the cable Top 25 based on total viewers and True Blood was at the Number 22 rung (though it did top The Last Ship in the 18-49 demo: 1.7 score vs. 1.0). And Teen Wolf continued its run in the Nielsen Twitting Ratings coming in at the Number 4 slot. I am expecting to see new CBS entry Extant in the charts next week, just not sure where at this point (should have the initial ratings results for that posted on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site later this morning). And Sunday nights get even more crowded for genre shows next week as FX’s The Strain has its debut, and I would be surprised to see that land in the charts as well.
